Visual description
This painting has been made using acrylic paint on canvas. It is 20cm in height and 40cm long.
The artwork depicts a scene of a studio with eight artists making artwork in it. The studio has a cosy feeling about it which is felt from the warm and varied use of different colours. The studio floor that has a few tones of green and white walls. The brush strokes used are sometimes long and sweeping which gives them a quality of movement.
The artists working in the studio are spaced out in the studio and each have an area where they are working. The artists themselves are painted with detail and shorter brush strokes. Although not all the artists have clear facial features depicted you can get a sense of them by the way they are positioned and working.
In the foreground of the right-hand bottom corner is a woman sitting on a black chair. She is about half the size of the canvas height and is crouched down with pen in hand creating an artwork. The woman has dark brown coloured skin and short black hair. She is wearing a red long sleeve top with a blue sleeveless apron on top. To her right is a large bag that is open at the top and to her left is a table that has several objects on it which look like books and mugs. The artwork she is working on is a medium sized (around A3 in size) white canvas or paper and has on it two bare trees with a light pink outline around them.
Behind this artist there are small figures depicting three others working. To the very right is someone painting on a canvas that is being help up by an easel. The artwork is hard to see since it is small, but we can make out a black outline with red and white stripes going vertically across the canvas. As we move again to the left there is an artist standing up facing away from their easel and they are looking over a table that has some objects on it. This man has white skin and is wearing a long sleeve black top, they have short black hair.
In the centre of this scene, but still in the background, is an artist sitting down on a black chair while they are painting a large canvas that takes up their whole table. The artwork they are creating has a blue strip at the top and green below this, in the middle is a white shape that is triangle in shape and resembles a sale of a boat. The artist is wearing a grey long sleeve top and dark trousers, they have short brown hair and pink coloured skin. They are depicted from a side on view. Their arm closest to us is lifted and holding a paint push into a pot of paints. In font of this table they have a small stacked set of draws, there are four different trays coloured in red, green and grey.
To the far left of this studio scene is another artist working on their own. They are using an easel, but a much smaller one, to create an artwork that has just been started, it has an outline of a pink circle with the start of a black background. This artist is positioned side on so we can see their right-hand side. They have their right hand up working on the pink circular object on their canvas. Their skin is a dark brown and their hair is long and light brown, it obscures their face by slightly handing down. They are wearing brown trousers and a light pinkish coloured top.
