Outside In is excited to announce a new peer mentor programme, ‘Next Steps’, which will provide vital development opportunities for artists facing barriers to the art world. The programme, which has been made possible thanks to continued support from The Arts Society and the Patricia Fay Memorial Fund, will see five artists professionally trained to deliver the mentoring for 12 artists.
Kate Davey, Training Manager for Outside In said: “This project will enable Outside In artists who have previously accessed our Step Up programme for training and professional development to further develop and share their skills with other Outside In artists in the form of peer mentoring. This will enable artists to learn from each other’s experiences and knowledge which could range from taking part in residencies to selling artwork commercially and creating funding applications.
“The programme is designed to be tailor-made and respond to the needs of the individual artists, while including more general professional business skills workshops, so mentors and mentees will be matched accordingly. It is then planned for the programme to start in June 2021.”
James Wilkins, Membership Director of The Arts Society comments: “The Arts Society is delighted to be able to support Outside In with this very worthwhile project. Outside In give access to the arts to those people that may not normally have the opportunity to do so, something which is very much at the heart of what we stand for. What we particularly like about the project is that those that have already benefited from the support of Outside In will be able to mentor a new group of up and coming artists and share their knowledge and experience whilst continuing to develop their own skills.”
The programme will be run fully online through a series of group and one-to-one sessions which will allow Outside In to work with participants from across the UK. The need for the programme has been identified through artist feedback with people wishing to gain the skills and confidence to progress their careers in the arts, as well as have an established peer-led network for continued learning beyond the project.
This page will be updated with information on how to apply to be a mentee this May (2021), but if you would like to register your interest please email email@example.com.
