Talia Johnson (TJ) is relatively new to the creative realm after having spent her previous life studying science. She now spends her time perfecting her ceramics vision and dabbling in watercolours, photography, and other mediums as her muse dictates.
Talia was born in Colorado, USA in 1975 and moved to the United Kingdom in 2018 to follow her husband on his quest for a doctorate in history. They plan on staying in the North of England for as long as possible but have two adult children still living in Colorado.
Inspired by the potters in the Southwest United States, especially the Anasazi and Pueblo potters. She uses techniques learned from studying their ancient methods and techniques picked up from more modern sources as well.
Talia has recently made the jump from making functional works to sculptural pieces inspired by her life experiences and struggles with mental illness. She uses primarily hand building techniques in her work.
Her work has been exhibited by the Baltic Gallery in Gateshead for their 2020 Open Submission exhibition and at the Vane Gallery as part of Chilli Studios ‘Never Normal’ exhibition.
Currently Talia posts work in progress and finished pieces on her Instagram page @uk_transplant. She also has a page as part of The Chilli Collective on their webpage
