Plymouth Blitz Boy in a gas mask

By Kevin Preston

Width: 134 cmHeight: 137cm

From the artist:

I’ve just got some more street art up. It’s at Garfield Terrace, Stoke, on the railway bridge that was heavily bombed in the Plymouth Blitz. A lot of civilians lost there lives. They kept the bridge as it was, after it survived the air attacks. There was a train depot on Vallatort Road which delivered goods to the frontline and it was a good link from the West Country, the German target was to destroy the bridge and vallatort railway depot using Devonport railway station. The bridge at the time belonged to Great western railway and in 1948 changed to southern Rail. This is an memorial to all the civilians that lost there lives in the Plymouth blitz and asked me to paint a child in a gas mask, this is what I’ve come up with and I hope you like it. You can still see all the bomb damage and bullet holes where they hit the bridge you see the painting on Westcountry TV I posted the link and video on this page
