Katya was born in Kaliningrad (Soviet Russia) in 1983 but has lived in the U.K. since 2007

 She has Aspergers Syndrome

In 2010 she received a Doctorate in Natural Sciences and went on to work as a researcher at Hull University

Following a road traffic accident in 2011 and a resulting brain injury Katya suffers from a permanent severe sight impairment (Hemianopia) and P.T.S.D. (Post traumatic stress disorder) and was no longer able to continue with her academic career

Katya has left hemianopia meaning she can only see the right side of the world

After a long period of recovery in rehabilitation centres she began on her self taught art journey

In 2018 Katya started painting her visual impairments as daily scenes of her life which  can be used as  a tool for occupational therapists to support people and raise awareness of hemianopia and brain injury

Katya always used positive statements and affirmations to help her during her recovery, painting them in ink and making them look pretty and into something people could get motivated and inspired by

With a desire to share this with other people Katya paints characters and affirmations which can be helpful for impaired people, their families and carers such as “I am a happy artist” (which she has become since her accident!)
