I have been developing a collaborative marker drawing project by traveling across the UK to invite people of varying communities to draw with me on large canvases. With as many as 30 people having worked on a single canvas, the drawings become tapestrial zeitgeists of people’s immediate and varying perspectives.
Most of the drawings have been made outside of established art contexts with people who have very little exposure to contemporary art. I think the merit of this project lies in seeing the participating artists’ enthusiasm for seeing how their contributions become part of a larger cohesive whole that I feel holds a relevant position in contemporary art.
I am interested in Outside In as a way of introducing my project to a broadening range of artists and communities interested in collaborative drawing as a means to continue to make drawings of varying approaches.
