From the artist:
This composition is partly a triple self portrait and partly inspired by a poem of the same title, written by a friend. The poem refers to a sense of floundering in time; past, present and future that become 'a liquorice knot'. We trip over our hopes for the future and memories of the past while failing to see the present. I included some faithful old bric a brac furniture I'd brought along with me placed next to the sea shore, that's followed me through several house moves.
From a series of three drawings where I explore a sense of displacement and also a fascination moving from the city to the sea.
