From the artist:
My first flat in Worthing had an old chandelier in front of one of the windows that used to look hopefully cheerful on gloomy days and it had five points like a hand. It also put me in mind of the ghastly folk ritual/belief: “The Hand of Glory”. My handalier lights up gloomy days with drawing and craft and I also like the pun in the name.
The flat overlooked the beach horizon so the image is a combination of realistic and imaginary details including seaweeds and other beach combed things.
From a series of three drawings where I explore a sense of displacement and also a fascination moving from the city to the sea.
