Wild-Fires-1

By Dawn Kalu

From the artist:

I began to work from photographs of the Australian wild fires in the Saturday magazine. Each photograph showed crumpled corrugated iron and maybe just a chimney stack still intact. As I concentrated on the corrugated iron....some collage and mostly paint the figures appeared. Perhaps the women are searching for belongings or are struggling to escape some trauma. On the ground a figure can't breathe without oxygen and at the time we were all reeling from the murder of George Floyd.
