Artwork

I Am Not Normal

By andrea mindel

Width: 38Height: 49

From the artist:

These two etchings hung together are part of a series of works made on returning to an art practice after 26 years.

The etching on the map was a studio mistake, printed by rolling the press over a 1950s map of the UK to soak up the ink from a former print.

The second frame uses a copper etching plate I made in the 1980s in response to the work of Henry Moore and Le Corbusier, to which I added an imprint of the zinc plate that marked my return to etching.  I then drew with an architectural pen around the images as a means of connecting them.

Etching for me is a process that doesn't end when the plate is fully worked.  There is much creativity to explore in the printing, from the paper you use, to how you place the plates.  I found myself rebelling against the notion of edition printing which is effectively done by a technician and not the artist.
