Giving Tuesday: The power to transform lives

Today is Giving Tuesday, a global movement which aims to unite millions of people around the world to come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.
Outside In is taking part and its chosen donation platform CAF is offering all charities who get a donation today the chance to win an additional £250 – meaning whatever you are able to give can really help to make a difference.

Of course, making a difference is about more than money and this is something we see every day at Outside In.

This year it has been especially moving to hear of the difference art has made to the life of Outside In artist Rakibul Chowdhury. Debbie Lyall, managing director of Right to Work CIC which runs the Art Invisible sessions he attends in Havant, explained: “It’s not an exaggeration to say that the involvement in Outside Art which has included two significant exhibitions, has truly transformed his life.

“Art provides a wonderful platform on which Raki can express himself, it also provides a tranquil and productive environment which has enabled him to develop his artistic skills and manage his behaviour.”

Speaking in an interview which went on to be featured on the front page of The News (see above), Debbie added that Raki has gained ‘immense enjoyment and satisfaction’ from his work and that his self-esteem and confidence have grown.

“The Right to Work’s team stand back in awe when he approaches people to shake their hands and introduce himself,” Debbie admitted. “When he makes the approach to thank people for the opportunities he’s being given, this is not the Raki that first came to us four years ago.”

One of the initial, and key ways, Outside In makes a difference is through artist development. This ranges from one-to-one support to assist artists in creating an online gallery, taking photographs or writing a statement to the Share Art events which are designed to showcase and inspire their work. Our artists are at the core of what we do and many have gone on to join our efforts to help others, from taking up ambassador roles to sitting on our artist advisory group.

Here’s how your donation today could help make a difference:

£150* funds an Artist Support Day providing one-to-one support

£600* pays for a Share Art event bringing together 12 artists to share their stories and inspiration

£1,020 enables artists to be trained as ambassadors
